Electric cars are on the rise. They’re more eco-friendly and are becoming cheaper to run too. They’re most likely going to become the car of the future, with petrol and diesel cars set to be slowly phased out. Adoption of electric cars may be slow so far, but there are plenty of electric vehicles coming to Australia in the next few years.

If you’re thinking about making your next car an electric one, you’ll have an extensive choice from both well-known manufacturers and new names on the scene.

Here are some of the electric cars that are set to arrive over the next 12 months or so:

  • ACE V1 Transformer, Cargo, and Urban
  • Audi E-Tron GT Sedan
  • BYD EA1 Hatch and BYD Atto 3 SUV
  • Cupra Born Hatch
  • Genesis Electrified G80 Sedan, Electrified GV70-type SUV, and GV60 Hatch
  • Hyundai Ioniq 6 Sedan
  • Porsche Macan EV
  • Renault Kangoo and Megan E-Tech SUV
  • Skoda Enyaq SUV
  • Subaru Solterra
  • Toyota bZ4X SUV
  • Volkswagen ID.4 SUV and ID.5 SUV
  • Volvo C40 Recharge

Some of these manufacturers are easily recognisable as well-established names. However, other new models are coming from electric-only manufacturers, including Australian-owned ACE and the Chinese company BYD. Others are subsidies of other brands, which specialise in either high-end vehicles or electric vehicles. For example, Cupra is owned by Seat and produces high-end cars, while Genesis is the luxury arm of Hyundai that includes luxury electric cars in their production line.
